Psychotherapy is a process in which you meet weekly with a psychologist in a 45-minute session and examine what is troubling you. Sessions may be with you, or with you and your spouse/partner.  Feeling comfortable with the psychologist is of paramount importance. Research has shown that the key to successful psychotherapy is a positive therapeutic alliance between the client and psychologist. In a supportive, non-critical atmosphere, you will learn to articulate feelings of distress. You will also learn skills that promote change. Most people come to learn that they in fact have much more control over their situations than they thought. A series of short-term psychotherapy can be the turning point for long-term change.
